Privacy Policy
The short version:
- We collect an email address to run your account, and basic usage data to improve the app.
- Your ZIP code is used once to look up your congressional district and is kept only on your device — we never store it on our servers.
- We never sell your data. There are no ads and no cross-app tracking.
- Payments are handled by Apple — we never see your card details.
- You can delete your account, and everything tied to it, from inside the app.
Who we are
QuorumCivic (the "App") is published by The Katalys Group LLC ("Katalys," "we," "us"). QuorumCivic is a civic-information app that presents public government records — legislation, votes, congressional financial disclosures, and campaign finance filings — in a readable form. This policy explains what information we collect from you, the user, and how we handle it.
Questions or requests: qcsupport@quorumcivic.app.
Information we collect
Account information
- Email address and authentication identifiers, when you create an account (via email, Sign in with Apple, or Google). If you use Apple's "Hide My Email," we receive only the relay address.
- Account settings — display preferences and your subscription status (see Payments below).
- Follows — bills, legislators, and topics you choose to follow, so we can show you their activity.
Information that stays on your device
- ZIP code / home district. If you enter a ZIP code to see your representatives, it is sent to our server once, statelessly, to look up the matching district — the ZIP itself is never stored on our servers. The result is saved only on your device.
- Selected issues and similar personalization choices are stored on your device.
Usage information
- App analytics — which screens and features you use, taps on cards and buttons, app version, and device type, tied to a pseudonymous identifier (and to your account ID once you sign in). We use this to understand what's working and fix what isn't.
- Questions you ask. When you use the Ask feature or request an AI analysis of a bill, the text of your question is processed by our AI provider to generate the answer, and questions are logged on our servers for quality and abuse prevention. Don't put sensitive personal information in questions — it isn't needed to answer them.
- Analysis requests — which bills you asked the App to analyze, used for fair-use limits on free accounts.
- Notifications. If you enable push notifications, we store a device push token so we can deliver them.
Payments
Subscriptions are purchased through Apple. We never receive or store your payment card details. Our subscription processor (RevenueCat) tells us your subscription status — product, active/expired, and renewal date — which we link to your account to unlock Supporter features.
What we do not collect
- No precise location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access.
- No advertising identifiers, no ad networks, no cross-app tracking.
- No sale of personal information — to anyone, ever.
A note on the public records we display
The App's content is drawn from public government sources — Congress.gov, STOCK Act financial disclosures, SEC filings, Federal Election Commission data, and similar records about public officials acting in public office. That content is about legislators, not about you, and is not "personal information we collect from users." Patterns the App surfaces in those records are correlative observations from public filings — not evidence of coordination or wrongdoing.
How we use your information
- To operate the App — sign you in, sync your follows, deliver notifications you enabled, and unlock your subscription.
- To improve the App — aggregate usage analytics tell us which features matter.
- To enforce fair-use limits and prevent abuse.
- To respond when you contact us.
We do not use your personal information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it.
Service providers
We use a small set of providers to run the App. Each receives only what its function requires:
| Provider | Function |
|---|---|
| Apple | App distribution, Sign in with Apple, payment processing |
| Google sign-in (only if you choose it) | |
| Supabase | Database and authentication hosting |
| Fly.io | Server hosting |
| RevenueCat | Subscription status processing |
| PostHog | Product analytics |
| Anthropic | AI processing of questions and bill text to generate answers and analyses. We do not include your name, email, or account identifiers in these requests. |
Our servers and providers are located in the United States. If you use the App from elsewhere, your information is processed in the U.S.
Retention and deletion
- Account information is kept while your account is active.
- You can delete your account inside the App (You tab → Account). Deletion removes your account record, follows, and personal data from our systems, except minimal records we're required to keep (for example, payment and security audit records).
- Data stored on your device is removed by deleting the App.
- Server logs and analytics are retained on rolling windows and then deleted or aggregated.
Your rights
You can access and update account information in the App, delete your account in the App, or email qcsupport@quorumcivic.app to request a copy or deletion of your personal information. We honor these requests regardless of where you live. We do not discriminate against you for exercising them.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to production systems is restricted, and per-user data is protected by row-level security in our database. No system is perfectly secure, but we design so that the most sensitive choice you make — your location — never reaches our servers in the first place.
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date above and note the change in the App. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
